Audio, Ringtones, and Hold Music

Open TelefonX › Settings … › Audio. TelefonX manages three audio paths separately.

Selection Effect Default
Microphone Sends your voice System Default
Playback Plays call audio System Default
Ringtone Output Plays incoming ringtones System Default

System Default follows the device selected in macOS. A specific device selection is retained. If that device is unavailable, it appears as Disconnected (Saved Selection) and TelefonX shows an audio warning.

  • With no call in progress, Refresh Audio Devices reloads the device list.
  • During a call, Apply Selection to Call immediately applies the microphone and call output.
  • Test Ringtone Output plays a short test on the selected ringtone device.
  • If a call shows Reconnect Audio, make the device available and use the action to restore the audio path.

If macOS denies microphone access, the remote party cannot hear you. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone, allow TelefonX, and repeat the test call.

Choose the ringtone while editing a line under Lines › Edit … › Ringtone for This Line. Built-in sounds are free; custom audio requires Pro. If a custom file is missing on this Mac, TelefonX uses the default sound until you choose the file again.

Custom hold music requires TelefonX Pro.

  1. Click Choose Audio File ….
  2. Select an unprotected WAV, AIFF, MP3, or M4A file.
  3. The file can be up to 10 minutes long and 100 MB in size.
  4. Check it with Preview Audio.

When you put a call on hold, the other party hears the file in a loop until you resume the call. Your phone system or SIP provider may play its own hold music instead.

Use Remove to return to no custom hold music. If the saved file is missing on this Mac, select it again. Audio files are not included in a TelefonX backup.
