Make and Control Calls

  1. Use the Mac keyboard or on-screen keypad to enter a phone number, extension, or SIP address.
  2. If several lines are available, select the line to use.
  3. Click Place Call or press ⌘ + Return.

When the dialer is empty, the first use of Redial inserts the last outgoing number for the selected line. Use the action again to place the call.

Start Calls from Lists Immediately controls whether the call button in Recents, Contacts, and Favorites calls immediately or places the number in the dialer. During an active call, the same action always starts a consultation.

An incoming call shows Answer and Decline. When the window is not in the foreground and notifications are allowed, TelefonX also posts a local notification. With Call Waiting enabled, a second call can arrive; otherwise TelefonX rejects it as busy.

Action Behavior
Mute Toggles the microphone; keyboard shortcut M
Hold / Resume Holds or resumes the call; keyboard shortcut H
Keypad Sends DTMF only during a connected call that is not on hold
Hang Up Ends the selected call

If a device connection is interrupted, TelefonX may offer Reconnect Audio. Custom hold music is sent locally to the held party; the phone system may override it.

  1. Click Consultation … in the connected call.
  2. Choose Dial or Contacts and start the second call. The first call is placed on hold.
  3. Once both calls are connected, choose Transfer to hand the first call to the second party.
  4. If the SIP transfer fails, both calls remain available.

Alternatively, choose Conference to merge the calls into a local three-way conference. You cannot start another consultation while a conference is active. End Conference keeps the selected call and disconnects the other one.

Hide My Caller ID on a line applies permanently to that line. The shield button in the phone area changes suppression for the next call only. The provider or phone system must support the request.

Do Not Disturb can remain active for 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or until turned off. With Focus synchronization enabled, the state follows macOS and cannot be changed manually in TelefonX.

TelefonX reconnects lines automatically after network, VPN, or wake changes. If necessary, choose Phone › Reconnect Lines. Closing the last window does not quit TelefonX; it remains in the menu bar. Quit TelefonX warns about active calls and disconnects them after confirmation.
