First Setup
You need the SIP credentials supplied by your provider. They may differ from the credentials for your customer account.
Add the first line
Section titled “Add the first line”- Open TelefonX Settings … Lines.
- Click Add Line ….
- Enter a descriptive name, such as “Office”.
- Enter the Domain / Server, SIP Username, and Password.
- Under Connection, select UDP, TCP, or TLS exactly as specified by the provider.
- Keep Line Enabled switched on and save the line.
TelefonX stores the SIP password in the macOS Keychain. Enter the server as a host name or IP address, optionally followed by a port – without sip:// and without a path.
Grant permissions
Section titled “Grant permissions”macOS requests microphone access when it is first required. Allow it so the remote party can hear you. A local phone system can also cause macOS to request local-network access.
| Permission | Required for |
|---|---|
| Microphone | placing calls |
| Contacts | read-only display of Apple Contacts |
| Notifications | incoming calls and callback reminders |
| Focus status | Do Not Disturb synchronization |
| Automation | pausing Apple Music or Spotify during a call |
Connect and make a test call
Section titled “Connect and make a test call”The line list and menu bar icon show the connection status. Once the line is connected:
- Open the dialer.
- Enter a reachable test number, extension, or SIP address.
- Verify the selected line.
- Click Place Call or press
⌘+Return. - Check the microphone and call audio in both directions.
If registration fails, first verify the server, username, password, and connection type. Then use Reconnect. See Fix Connection and Audio Problems for more help.
